Portal

Cast glass, Iron and wood frame.
5' X 5' X 8"
2009

This piece is available for purchase.

2009 for a show of resident artists work at Penland School of Crafts. To make this window I pressed a template into sand then made a series of patterns directly in the sand using sticks, machine parts, gears and in one window, Lego bricks to make impressions.  Molten glass was then ladled into the sand. After the annealing process (slow cooling of the glass), each piece was cut and polished and fit into a wood clad iron frame.

Portal is designed to be installed in a wall and to create the illusion of a window where there is no opportunity for one.
